Carrying Forward the Roosevelt Legacy and Values

The Roosevelt Institute is devoted to carrying forward the legacy and values of Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt. We do this by promoting a range of programs that attract new audiences to their ideals and values.

Our main vehicle for this effort is the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library & Museum in Hyde Park, NY. As the private, non-profit partner of this remarkable facility, the first US presidential library, we offer programs and exhibitions and issue papers and blog postings that tie historical precedence to contemporary challenges.

We also seek to bring forward the Roosevelt legacy by recognizing the outstanding achievements of those whose lives exemplify their values. Among the awards and grants we bestow are:
·         The Four Freedoms Medals
·         The FDR Distinguished Public Services Award
·         The Arthur M Schlesinger Jr. Award
·         The International Disability Award
·         The Naval History Prize
·         Roosevelt Research Support Grants

The FDR Four Freedoms Park originated as a project of the Roosevelt Institute as part of the Institute’s focus on recognizing and celebrating the legacy of Franklin D. Roosevelt. As the project grew in scale and scope, it was decided that the Park operations would formally separate from the Institute and operate as its own 501c3. The leadership of the FDR Four Freedoms Park and the Roosevelt Institute work together to ensure the work of both organizations are complementary, and several directors serve on the boards of both institutions.
